Love Hues! build 1.03, and an unofficial walkthrough!

Hello everyone!

Walkthrough

First of all, I'm happy to announce that user Miks generously created an unofficial Love Hues walkthrough! I encourage you to check it out if you're stuck at any point in the game. It's very thorough and helpful, and I'd like to take a moment to thank him again for all his hard work in putting this together.

Of course you're also always welcome to DM me or leave a comment in the game's comment thread if you have feedback about the game or if you'd like to reach out for tips/hints/help!

What's new in 1.03?

To everyone who submitted bug reports and typos to me - I'm sorry it took  me so long to get this out.  Thank you again for reaching out and letting me know where things were off, wrong, etc.!

Here are the changes to 1.03. To the best of my understanding, I didn't implement any changes that could break your save data, so old saves should work fine in this version. Please let me know if things don't work and I'll look into it ASAP to see if I can fix it. You should be able to download this build and have your old saves carry over, while deleting your previous version of Love Hues! (Thanks to Bob Conway on Twitter for sharing this knowledge with me!) You can also back up your saves from the saves folder from the previous build if desired .

Story changes

  • Added a choice to Toby's True ending conversation, where you can now agree to take a break in the friendship/relationship as a result of what Toby shares with you. This'll still give you the True Platonic ending.
    • The reason why I implemented this story change, and the next one on this update list, is because I felt that I approached Toby's past with too much naiveté.  I recognize that certain players may have had bad or toxic past relationships, and I didn't feel that it was fair to force them into going ahead w/Toby's route if they were uncomfortable in order to get a True ending.
  • Modified Devlin and Toby's interactions in Ava's Route.
    • Similar to the point above. Spoilers below:
    • ///
    • The way I wrote the story in the builds prior to 1.02, I felt that Devlin and Toby were too close by the end of the route considering their past. Once again, I didn't feel that this narrative of implied reconciliation was fair to Devlin in the game, or anyone who'd been through a similar situation irl. As a result, I separated the two more and re-emphasized in the game's scenes that Devlin's feelings in this difficult situation are important too. I'm sorry I didn't approach this component of the story better up to now, and I'm still not entirely happy with it as a whole. I will absolutely do my best to be more thoughtful in the future and will focus more on conveying healthy relationships + the importance of ensuring that someone has the space and opportunity to heal if they were hurt.
    • As always, if you run into similar issues with the story that make you uncomfortable, you can always let me know through whichever communication channel feels best for you.

Technical changes/fixes

  • Fixed typos reported by users.
  • Fixed a user-reported bug where selecting certain choices during the volunteer recruitment scene would incorrectly cause the game to continue playing out the scene.
  • Took out an instance of unnecessary gendered language.
